our story
Company history
CCC Steel, Inc., was launched in the mid-1970s in Los Angeles by Wolfgang Grünwald, who had earlier been sent to the U.S. by the European steel trading company Coutinho Caro + Co. as part of that company’s Pacific Rim expansion. CCC Steel began as a wholesale distributor of steel, which was mostly shipped into the port of Los Angeles from mills throughout the world at a time when international markets were limited.
After opening Intermountain Steel in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the mid-1980s, the company incorporated end users into its model, adding construction and manufacturing companies to its customer base. That business, a division of CCC, is called IMS Steel. A decade after adding IMS, CCC bought General Pipe, a structural steel distributor in Compton, California. In 1996, the company was sold to Reliance, Inc., North America’s largest metals service center company. Over time, CCC Steel has diversified its model and customer base further with a focus on steel fabricators, civil contractors and other metal distributors.

Empower Your Career with Roles in Steel That Combine Innovation, Impact, and Opportunity
Safety
Safety is CCC Steel’s top core value. Because steel yards and warehouses are high-hazard environments, every CCC Steel employee knows that safety is job #1 before moving any steel product. CCC’s safety protocols comply with and exceed OSHA standards, and every yard and warehouse activity and piece of equipment operates under a Job Safety Analysis. Employees are trained to recognize hazards and mitigate risks at every level of operation. CCC Steel’s culture of safety extends beyond our employees to our suppliers, customers and all other stakeholders.

Leading the Way in Steel Sustainability Through Innovation and Resource Efficiency
Sustainability
CCC Steel proudly sources much of its steel supplies from U.S. steel mills using electric arc furnaces, in which all products are made primarily from recycled steel scrap. Our products are used in building projects where sustainability scores are imperative.
